Overview

Strong villages build a strong nation

Families in rural areas often have limited access to information, training and services – including the government schemes that are meant for them.

Our Rural Development programme works with village communities to change this. We hold awareness drives on health, hygiene, education and rights, support livelihood and skill-building activities, and help families learn about the welfare schemes they may be eligible for and how to apply for them.

Every activity is planned with community members so that it fits local needs.

  • Limited information about schemes and services
  • Few local opportunities for skills and income
  • Long distances to training centres and offices
  • Need for awareness on health, hygiene and sanitation

How we work

Our approach

Every activity follows a simple, accountable process.

  1. 1

    Visit & listen

Volunteers visit villages and meet community members, elders and local groups.

  2. 2

    Plan together

Priorities and activities are agreed with the community.

  3. 3

    Act with local volunteers

Awareness drives and training are run with local volunteers, so that the work continues.

  4. 4

    Review & follow up

We review what worked and follow up on scheme applications and training.

  • Landless and daily-wage workers
